Why doesn\'t your team play more matches and scrims?

We can't figure out how to use this website
We plan to, but we're not ready yet
We plan to, but we don't have enough recruits yet
We're doing 6 months of training to prepare first
We're too busy pubbing
We're a bunch of scaredy cats
We suck too bad and dont want to embaras ourselves
We don't play PR anymore since 0.8 came out
We aren't even on PRL
I'm not actually on a team
What is a match or scrim? I'm stupid.

    PRL Upgrades to 0.809
I've upgraded the league for 0.809 with new configs and map lists. The 6v6 ladder now uses SKIRMISH mode instead of the old AAS maps because of changes in 0.8. There have been no significant rule changes for 0.809, but new teams or teams who might have forgotten the rules should read through them so that matches and scrims will go smoothly. The rules can be found on the forums.

If your team is thinking of joining, or if you've just joined and need some pointers on how to use the site, please read the handy PRL Guide which explains almost everything.

Now let's get out there and play some matches and scrims already!!! As an incentive, the first team to play 3 matches and/or scrims I will highlight in a news story right here on the front page of the PRL to let all the players and teams out there know which clan is the most active in PR organized competition (and scrims).

    Xfire PRL group
A reminder to new and old teams alike, the PRL has an xfire group called "PR League Leadership". All clan leaders, or very active clan members, are invited to join. This will help all the clans to be in contact with each other more easily.

Go here and apply to get into the group: http://www.xfire.com/clans/prleague

When you apply, please write in what clan you are from. You need xfire installed to join this group, and I highly recommend you get it.

New Official PRL Configs for 0.809
I've updated the official 6v6 and 9v9+ PRL configs for 0.809. Also, I've created a new Scrims Ladder config. All the configs are available for download in the Downloads section of this site. Click on Downloads in the right side menu to find the configs. It's IMPORTANT that clan leaders be aware of these configs, and what differences they contain from the default PR config. Please read the threads below for more details on the configs. But just for example, in the 6v6 config it only takes 2 guys to cap a flag instead of 3 and in the 9v9+ and Scrims Ladder configs it takes 6 enemies near a rally to make it disappear instead of 3.

The 6v6 config is mandatory for the 6v6 ladder and the 9v9+ config is mandatory for the 9v9+ ladder. However, the Scrims Ladder config is not mandatory for the Scrims ladder, although it is recommended.

Complete details on the 9v9+ config
Complete details on the Scrims Ladder config

    New Map Lists for 0.809
0.8 has four types of maps: AAS, Counter-Attack, Insurgency, and Skirmish. The PRL uses the following short form codes for those map types: AAS, CA, INS, and SK. The 6v6 ladder only uses SK maps. The 9v9+ ladder uses AAS, CA, and INS maps, as well as a few of the larger SK maps. The Scrims ladder uses virtually every map from PR, so all four types including SK. SK maps are small to medium sized infantry maps with no commander asetts, focused on intense infantry action. SK 16 maps are just like the old AAS 16 maps from 0.7x and now the new AAS 16 maps are huge 64 sized maps but with only jeeps and no heavy vehicles.

The full map lists can be viewed here: Scrims Ladder map list, 6v6 map list, 9v9+ map list

Project Reality Scrims "Ladder" / War Arranging area
News about ladderThe PRL has launched a Scrims "ladder". It is essentially a scrim arranging area on the site - not a competition ladder. Whether you call them battles, clan wars, scrimmages, or something else, they are friendly battles between two teams/units/clans. This is a tool for clan or team leaders, unit CO's, or war arrangers to organize battles of any size with other PR teams.

The Project Reality League also runs two competition ladders: the 6v6 (infantry skirmishes on small maps) and the 9v9+ (larger PR battles up to 32v32 in size on large maps with vehicles). Those are competition ladders with persistent rankings, records kept, and a rigid format and rules.

In contrast, the Scrims ladder is not actually a ladder, but simply a scrim arranging area. The rules for the ladder are very relaxed and can be summed up as "Use common sense and be respectful". Teams agree on whatever settings, maps, time limits, format or arrangements that they want. Teams can also agree on any specialized rules they want (such as no attacking uncaps). The idea here is that the teams do what they want, the scrims ladder is just here to bring the teams together in one place and help them set up battles.

You can even challenge many teams at the same time and have several matches in the works. Also, there's no pressure for your team to be "ready" or have enough people and time to play every team that challenges you; if your team is busy, you can simply decline a challenge. The site creates a match page for each match where team leaders can communicate with each other about scheduling, server IP's, etc.

    The ladder looks like this:

The only record that is kept is who played who when, and how many battles each team has played in. It does not record who won, nor does it record the score. The most active teams rise to the top of the ladder so that people know who is more active. The Rating is based solely on Games Played, not games won, because in a scrim arranging area knowing which teams are the most active is helpful in deciding who to challenge for your next battle.

Every PR team that wants to play more organized battles of varying sizes against other PR teams should definitely sign up for this ladder. If you have questions or want to know how to sign up, check the PRL Guide first since it answers most things.

We all know PR is a great game, now let's revitalize the PR clan/team/unit community and get the frequent battles flowing!

    Ze Germans are coming!
General News about the PR mod
Recently I sat down with the guys behind the German Forces PR community mod and had a chat with them about their upcoming mod-within-a-mod for Project Reality.

Project Reality League: Hi guys, could you introduce yourselves and your roles in the German Forces community mod?

azn_chopsticks_boi: Hello, I am azn_chopsticks_boi and currently I am the German Mod leader.

BetterDeadThanRed: BetterDeadThanRed, former manager and founder of the project.

PRL: Can you explain what a PR "community mod" is, for anyone who doesn't know?

BDTR: A community mod involves a group of PR community members gathering together, and with the blessing of the PR devs, creating new content for Project Reality.

PRL: What is the German Forces mod and what are its goals?

BDTR: It started off with just a single thread made by somebody who seemed a little over ambitious, but I was intrigued by the idea and drew up a quick design plan for presentation, and what do you know, it worked. Our goals at this point are pretty simple: Get a simple release candidate put into one of the upcoming PR releases.

azn: Plain and simply, to bring the German Armed Forces into PR.

*please note, many of the renders shown throughout this article are Works In Progress*

PRL: What armies are the German Forces going to be fighting against?

    azn: MEC, Insurgents, Russians, PLA.

PRL: Tell me about the classes and weapons in the German Forces army.

    azn: The new weapons are the G36, Mg3, Mg4, RGW-60, Panzerfaust 3, KM2000, MP7A1 and many more.

BDTR: In keeping with PR standards, the basic classes will be the same, but dealing with the G36 and its powerful set of optics has forced us into a unique position: It is unfair for every kit to have a scope and a red dot sight, but it is unrealistic to do otherwise. In the end, we decided to do the balancing through map design, I.e. having the Germans as the attackers trying to fight their way out of a difficult position. Don't be surprised if an MG3 makes it in as a pickup kit though.

PRL: Tell me about the new vehicles, how many are there?

azn: There are a few being made such as the Dingo II and Puma IFV. Operation Peacekeeper has allowed us to use the Leopard 2A6 and Wolf.

BDTR: Vehicles were originally not going to be part of the first release, but the guys at OPK have generously donated their Leopard II model and a few of our teammates have already created a few other vehicles, so our first release may see the inclusion of a few more goodies than first expected. ;)

PRL: What maps are being worked on? Will any of them be 16 player?

BDTR: We have several people working on revamping some of the old PR maps and unused BF2 maps to the new PR standard, but I am really excited about seeing the return of Steel Thunder to the lineup.

azn: There are a few maps being made such as Ambush, a remake of Steel Thunder. There’s one more, but I can’t spill any secret yet ;) There will be 16p version of the maps made.

PRL: Anything else you want to tell me about the GF mod, anything I missed?

BDTR: You were pretty thorough, but if anybody out there wants to lend a hand, be sure to drop by the sub forum as we are always looking for help.

PRL: How close is the mod to being finished?

azn: Ha, everyone asked this question and the answer is when the faction is ready.

BDTR: Well, attaching a percentage value to completion is like attempting to do so to Project Reality. I'm willing to keep working on the project so long as the public holds interest, but if you want to know how long we are until completing our first release candidate, I would hope we will be finished in time for a v0.8 patch. At this point, the majority of the work is completed, it’s just a matter of touching up and tying up loose ends.

azn: I would say about 35% as of now.

PRL: Who are the people on the team and what are their roles/contributions?

azn: This is more of a group of people who volunteer, Pride, [R-MOD]Dylan, 77SiCaRiO77, Gumball, marcoelnk, [R-Con] kaijleor, [R-CON]Shiftys1023, Celica`, [R-MOD]KP. Celica re-skinned the EF uniforms to the Flecktarn camouflage pattern.

BDTR: Gumball, 77SiCaRiO77, and [R-MOD]Dylan have made some outstanding models and Pride has made skins of equal quality, but we still have plenty of people who aren't committed to the project help us out in numerous ways, and although their names are too numerous to mention, I thank them.

PRL: What has your biggest contribution to the mod been?

azn: It's a team effort and everyone has helped out in many ways :) without one there other would not be able to assist.

BDTR: I'm not going to lie, I am a talentless nave compared to these guys. I was the team’s founder and manager before passing the torch on to Azn.

PRL: What's the best thing about working on a mod like this?

azn: It's really fun and a very interesting experience.

BDTR: Definitely seeing all of the talent and generosity from the community members. I was really awed by the quality of work that emerged from these guys and the help that they gave one another.

PRL: What is your favorite PR community mod besides the GF?

azn: Russians and Israel and Dutch

BDTR: I really love the IDF mod. They have some really amazing work and have a really unique setup I can't wait to play.
